Emphatic 9-wkt win for India at Emerging Players' Meet

Pacer R Vinay Kumar ran through the New Zealand `A` middle-order grabbing four wickets as India recorded an emphatic 9-wicket victory in the Emerging Players` Meet at the Endeavour Ground on Monday.

Vinay, who has retained his place in the Indian ODI squad for the tour of England had figures of four for 33 as New Zealand were dismissed for 239 in their second essay which left India a paltry target of 108. New Zealand had scored 272 in the first innings after India scored 404 courtesy Manoj Tiwary`s magnificent 188.

Courtesy Ajinkya Rahane (45 not out) and wicketkeeper-batsman handrasekhar Gautham (44 not out), Indians knocked off the required runs in 17.3 overs. Indians now have nine points from two matches while New Zealand were docked three negative points for defeat.

New Zealand A started the day at precarious 48 for three still needing 84 runs to avoid innings defeat. But the Daniel Flynn (80, 188 balls, 8x4) and Dean Brownlie (88, 176 balls, 10x4, 3x6) batted sensibly adding 148 runs for the fourth wicket raising visions of a draw.

But once Flynn was caught by Ambati Rayudu off Iqbal Abdullah, the rest of the batsman didn`t show any stomach for fight. The last six wickets fell for 34 runs as Vinay accounted for three batsmen.

Indians will play their final encounter against Australian Institute of Sports (AIS) at Endeavour Park from August 11-13.
