An independent tribunal convened by Football Federation Tasmania announced its verdict yesterday, and both clubs were found to have brought the game into disrepute, while two Hobart United players received lengthy bans.
Additionally, the tribunal found there was "insufficient, credible evidence" to support any charge of racism in the lead-up to and during the melee.
The tribunal, which began its deliberations on July 7, had considered the appropriate penalties for the clubs for over three weeks and came under scrutiny for their prolonged discussions.
But yesterday's judgment saw United hardest hit, with the club fined $1100 for bringing the game into disrepute through "serious misconduct of its players and spectators".
A statement issued by FFT said: "Given the serious misconduct found, particularly the threat to the referees, the independent tribunal imposes an additional fine of $2000, wholly suspended subject to Hobart United FC not bringing the game into disrepute for the remainder of the 2011 season and all of the 2012, 2013 and 2014 seasons".
In addition, United was deducted 27 points from its current tally of 29 points and Metro nine points from their 32 this season.
